Sonatine - 久石譲 (Joe Hisaishi)

Kitano - Sonatine

Just received the programme of the Irish Film Institute for the month of March and I had two nice surprises. The first one is about Norwegian Wood. I read the book ages ago, loved it and, you know, the usual “the film will never be as good as the book, blah blah” thing. Turns out Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead and CAN (CAN!) wrote the soundtrack. I’ve got to see it.

The second surprise is that Herzog’s new documentary (Cave of Forgotten Dreams), also screening this month, is… (drum roll) … a 3D movie! Herzog made a 3D movie! I’ve great expectations for this one. Hopefully someone is going to start using 3D as an actual filming technique rather than a crappy blockbuster special effect.

I just learnt from a friend on Facebook that Béla Tarr is presenting a new film at the Berlin Film Festival entitled “A Torinói ló” (The Turin Horse). The film narrates the descent of Friedrich Nietzsche into dementia, which first manifested when he was in Turin. Nietzsche embraced a horse that refused to move and was being brutally whipped.
I know very little about Béla Tarr, and I know that little after “Werckmeister harmóniák” sunk deep down in me. This is one of my favourite films of all times and also one of my first posts here on tumblr. I don’t like reblogging myself, so here is a link.
Update: A torinói ló won the Silver Bear, The Jury Grand Prix
